Cluely Desktop App Guide

All features in the Cluely desktop app and how to get started.

Updated this week

1) Dashboard App

Open the Cluely app to see a preview of upcoming meetings, view past meeting notes, and chat with AI on your desktop.

To make the most of dashboard, ensure you have linked your Google Calendar for upcoming meeting alerts and pre-call briefs and Customized Cluely with any prompts or personalization for your calls.

Invisibility

You can toggle invisibility by hovering over your profile icon > Settings > General Tab: Toggle Detectability.

You can learn more about undetectability here. Cluely is invisible on any screen sharing video conferencing software by default, as long as the software respects the Windows and MacOS default for privacy & infinite overlays. Cluely uses the same technology that Zoom does to ensure screen share does not show infinite overlays.

Upcoming Meeting Briefs

Cluely will identify meeting participants of upcoming calls, research their professional profiles, and pull in meeting context so you can walk into every meeting prepared. Requires calendar integration. Only Google Calendar is supported as of August 27th, 2025.

Meeting Notes & AI Insights

Click into any of your past meetings from the dashboard. See auto generated detailed notes, AI drafted next steps, and full transcripts.

The Activity section is the default Home view. It lists meeting items that are created when you start a listening session and then stop it—Cluely generates a summary from the session’s meaningful audio content. Open any meeting item to see:

  • Metrics — meeting date.

  • Resume Session — continue the listening session (useful if the meeting continues and you want to keep the accumulated context; very long transcripts can slow down responses).

  • Share notes — generate a public link to share the meeting summary.

  • Delete — remove the meeting from Activity.

  • Next Steps — e.g., write a follow-up email (based on the session).

  • Manual edit — click into the summary text to edit it directly.

How to Export Transcripts

Need to export your transcripts from Cluely? Open a meeting note and click the waveform icon (View Transcript). Then click the Copy Icon to copy the full transcript.

2) Starting A Session

Hit Start Cluely to start recording a meeting. If you have linked your calendar, Cluely will notify you & auto prompt you to start sessions. Typical uses include meetings (in-person/online), sales calls, and classes.

Starting Cluely activates your AI meeting assistant that answers questions, defines terms, and makes you the expert on any call. When Start Cluely is active, Cluely captures your microphone and your computer’s audio to build a transcript that differentiates between what you say and what’s coming from the computer. When a session is active, the Command Bar and Live Insights become visible.

Command Bar Options

  • Cluely Logo: Click the Cluely Logo top open and close the dashboard.

  • Stop Icon / Start Cluely: To stop or start a recording session.

  • 3 Vertical Dots: Drag & drop move the command bar anywhere on your screen.

Live Insights Options

  • Dynamic Insights: As you talk, keywords, questions, and objections from your transcript will appear on the Live Insights widget. These are dynamic and appear as the conversation continues. Click any of these cards to get help.

  • Ask Anything: Chat interface to ask anything about your screen, audio, or chat more specifically than CMD Enter.

  • Show Transcript: Clicking show transcript in the upper right hand corner of the Live Insights card during an active meeting shows you the live transcript. (You can also access the full transcript after a call ends in the dashboard > My Activity > Select meeting > Waveform Icon (Show Transcript button)

Session Key Binds

Below are the default keybinds. You can also edit your keybinds or disable the short cuts entirely by going to your Settings > Selecting a Shortcut > Edit Icon.

  • CMD Enter / CTRL Enter: Ask AI anything about your screen, audio, or chat

  • CMD R / CTRL R: Clear session context.

  • CMD Left, CMD Right / CTRL Left, CTRL Right: Move the Cluely left and right on your screen.

  • CMD + \ (macOS) or CTRL + \ (Windows): Hides and shows the command bar widget.

3) Live Insights

A deeper look into the Ask AI prompt and how requests work: Open the Ask AI box with ⌘ + Enter (macOS) or Ctrl + Enter (Windows), or by clicking Ask. From here you have three choices:

  1. Send a “screen-only” query — Press ⌘/Ctrl + Enter again to submit without typing. Cluely captures one screenshot of your current screen and (if Listen is on) includes any active audio transcript to infer what you need help with and reply.

  2. Type then send — Type in the box and press Enter. Cluely uses your text, a fresh screenshot, and (if active) the running transcript as context.

  3. Manage context — Press ⌘/Ctrl + R to clear the current conversation context. You can also continue a thread by submitting again.

Notes
• Each query includes at most one screenshot.
• If Listen is active, Cluely includes transcript context with your request.

Click the Home icon (to the right of Hide) to open the in-app Dashboard. From here you can see:
